Girls and their toys

FireBrandi stepped out of the elevator into the security room. Security agents stood behind the blast proof window, hands ready on a bank of controls for alarms and various intrusion countermeasures in the room.

"Handprint please?"

Brandi placed her hand on the scanner set on one wall of the room. Security had certainly been increased here at Stranger Industries since the 'Mindy incident'. When she went to visit Mindy they gave her a very hard time over the bag of marshmallows. They just wouldn't accept her explanation that they were an inside joke.

"All clear" The door buzzed and Brandi was allowed to go through to the electronics lab in this section. The lab was large, at least a dozen workstations, though only one of them was currently occupied. FireBrandi floated up to see over the piles of clutter covering much of the available space.

"Hello? I was told you could help me with a piece of equipment that is not working properly."

A young woman with safety goggles looked up. One hand holding a soldering iron, another holding the metal strip, and two more hands holding the electronic components she was trying to join. "Oh hi, just give me a minute." She carefully put down the components she was working with, put the iron in its holder, and pulled off the goggles at the same time. "unhh hi, I'm called Polygirl."

"Hi Polygirl, I'm FireBrandi, though you can call me Brandi. I've got a Healing Accelerator that I've been using for years. For some reason it isn't working, and I really need it when out dealing with the bad guys." Brandi pulled a small device from the place it was clipped to her belt, placing it on the table in front of Poly.

Poly picked and up, looking at it from all angles, while pulling out a screwdriver. "What is this thick casing? I haven't seen anything like this for an electronic device."

"It is special heat resistant ceramics. Otherwise it would melt when I do just about anything. You press that there, then that, and it scans the injured area, and a green ray comes from here that does the healing."

Polygirl already had the back of the device removed, carefully inspecting the components and how they were held in place. "What type of power does it use? This looks like the power pack right here... scanning array... analyzer.."

"I don't know, some kind of self recharging system. It runs for a short time then it needs at least several minutes to recharge. Just enough to keep me in the fight if things don't go too badly"

"That is useful, I might have to adapt the technology for some of my equipment." Hooks up a couple wires to the power source, "We are getting a current, so the power source is ok. Might be a broken connection somewhere" She pulls over a stand with various magnifying glasses attached, examining every circuit closely. While Polygirl looks over the boards Brandi looked over the project she was working on.

"What are you working on? A high tech paint ball gun?"

"Sort of, it is a weapon I'm working on for delivering chemical agents at longer range to specific targets. Instead of compressed air it uses a rail gun to propel the ammunition. A couple strips of metal are attached to the plastic ball containing the chemicals. Unfortunately while that gives good range it doesn't get good coverage. You get one small spot at the point of impact, and not much else."

"Sounds neat. What about putting a smaller ball in the big one. The smaller one containing two chambers, one with maybe potassium, the other can just contain water or other liquid that reacts well with potassium. On impact that would make a nice little explosion, spraying the surrounding liquid over a wider area."

Polygirl looks up "That might work! Are you a chemist?"

"Degrees in engineering, chemistry, and physics, though I'm no expert."

"Great, maybe you can help me with a few of my other projects. Sometimes it is hard finding someone with a free moment to help out. They are all so busy when I'm working on a new prototype. Aha! There is the problem, a broken connection right here under the button. Must have been jammed down a little too hard too many times."

Brandi looks a little embarrassed "well, sometimes I need it working right away, or I might not be able to use it later"

"That's ok, I can fix it so it can stand rough handling a bit better. Can you grab the extra fine solder from the drawer over there."

"Sure thing" Brandi goes through the drawer, then notices some items on the table. "huh? Walkiria? Mindy? You got hero action figures?"

Polygirl sounded a little nervous "uh yea, I've been collecting them."

"And Soviet Superwoman, these are so cool! Where did you get them? Are there more in the set? Oh I hope they make one of me, that would be awesome!"

Poly cheered up at FireBrandi's enthusiasm, "Oh I got them at a nice store, the Hall of Just Toys." Looks up at the clock, "It is almost time for a lunch break, I could show you where it is if you like"

Brandi looks up cheerfully, a figure in each hand "Great! My treat for lunch, there is a good pizza place I found near here. They got one where they put a fig spread on it, tastes a lot better than I expected."

"Free food, Yes! I think I know that place, haven't tried the fig pizza yet. Just let me finish repairing your device and we can be off"
